W Sydney, opening in Darling Harbour in October 2023, is now casting for an Assistant Director of Human Resources/HR Manager to lead day-to-day operation of the human resources department.

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, this integral role provides human resources leadership to the business and presents an amazing opportunity to play a key role in the pre-opening efforts of the world's largest W Hotel.


The Assistant Director of Human Resources' primary responsibilities include assisting the Director of Human Resources in executing strategies that serve to attract, retain, and develop diverse premiere talent.

Position directs and works with human resource team members to carry out the daily activities of the Human Resource Department, including talent casting, talent relations, total reward, performance management, talent relations, and learning and development.

Executes against objectives outlined in the Human Resources Business Plan and delivers services that meet or exceed the needs of talent and enable business success.

Ensures compliance with applicable regulations and HIDs (standard operating procedures).


To be successful as an assistant director of human resources you will possess strong leadership skills, exceptional problem-solving skills, a flair for culture, be creative, thinking out of the box constantly, highly organized, and have an exceptional inter-personal skill.


Talent Profile

Education & Experience Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or Business Administration
  • Minimum twoyear experience as Assistant Director of Human Resources or Human Resources Manager in a busy, luxury hotel/hospitality environment
  • Preopening experience will be an advantage
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication and Microsoft Office skills, and a strong attention to detail

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

Managing Headcount and Talent Casting Process

  • Works with Employment Administrator to establish and maintain contact with external recruitment sources (e.g., state job service, local colleges, recruiting agencies, and community based organizations).
  • Facilitates interdepartmental transfers and promotions and transfers or promotions to other properties within this property brand.
  • Oversees the selection and offer processes for hourly talent to ensure proper procedures are followed (e.g., valid reasons for selection/nonselection are documented, applicants receive status notifications).
  • Partners with department managers and recruiting professionals to recruit management positions, make hiring decisions and negotiate job offers in accordance with HIDs.

Managing Legal and Compliance Practices

  • Ensures compliance with key policies (e.g., Sexual Harassment, Non-Harassment, Non-Discrimination, No Solicitation).
  • Ensures auditions are conducted according to recommended guidelines, consistent screening criteria is used, and only jobrelated questions are asked.
  • Ensures wages are paid in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and federal and state laws (e.g., talent pay for meeting attendance, wages limited to maximum rate of pay, entry level rates paid to new hires, overtime provisions in place, separation pay).
  • Ensures drug screening and background checks are completed in accordance with brand's Standard Operating Procedures.

Managing Benefits Education and Administration

  • Manages Workers Compensation claims to ensure appropriate talent care and costs management.
  • Educates talent on benefits package.
  • Educates HR team on the various types of benefits available and eligibility requirements.
  • Provides an overview of talent benefits to the management team enabling them to educate their talent and answer routine questions.
  • Ensures that department has the available resources on hand to administer talent benefits.

Managing and Conducting Talent Development Activities
