    About the program

AIR6500 is the RAAF's $3 billion program to develop a joint air battle management system that builds on the capabilities offered by Next Generation sensor and command and control systems.

AIR6500 will create a fully networked 'system of systems' that synchronises air and missile defence operations in joint and coalition environments, maximising situational awareness and enhancing the speed of decision making across the battlespace.


Your responsibilities will include:

This role will provide effective leadership and management of subcontractor capability for the AIR6500 program from inception through to completion, either individually in a specialist role for highly complex, high-risk subcontracts; or through leadership of others for subcontracts of medium-high risk and complexity.


Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Lead the Subcontract Program Management aspect of proposals, including the development of proposal artefacts and business plans as required
  • Team leadership and development
  • Provide make or buy recommendations to Program Management
  • Conduct evaluation activities for subcontractor selection
  • Develop subcontract program management plans that address overall program needs
  • Manage all costs, quality, schedule, financial and technical performance requirements that are levied on the subcontractor and ensure performance and support of the contract milestones
  • Manage Service Level Agreement compliance
  • Monitor, manage and report on subcontractor performance in accordance with the project approved plans and contractual obligations

About you:

  • You are a seasoned Program Management professional with solid leadership skills, and extensive experience working in a commercial or contract management environment.
  • Additionally, you will have:
  • Significant experience in negotiation and resolution of complex issues to achieve a positive, commercially focused outcome
  • Solid experience in leading, managing and motivating teams
  • A background in, or sound knowledge of, Defence capability development processes and Defence acquisition practices
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver against requirements, schedules and budgets in a complex or medium risk environment.
  • Working knowledge of AS4360 (Risk Management), ISO9001 (Quality Systems) and AS04817 (Earned Value Management)
