About the Role

The Supported Playgroup Facilitator will deliver smalltalk supported playgroups to meet the needs of the families with young children in Darebin.


The incumbent will build engagement with families, deliver fun and engaging playgroup sessions in a welcoming and inclusive environment and also connect families with individual parent coaching and/or other services as required.


  • Facilitate smalltalk supported playgroup sessions
  • Deliver individual parent coaching with eligible families, where appropriate
  • Build parenting capacities in families utilising the smalltalk strategies
  • Assist families to navigate and connect with early childhood education and care services, especially kindergarten and Early Childhood Approach
  • Connect families with other community services and programs as appropriate
  • Build on culturally sensitive and inclusive practices to enhance engagement of families
  • Participate in team meetings, reflective practice discussions and Communities of Practice sessions with peers
  • Maintain a childsafe, culturally safe and inclusive service
  • Complete all data collection and program reporting requirements on the Parenting Support Program digital platform operated by the Department of Families Fairness and Housing and all other relevant Council systems as directed

Skills & Experience

  • Qualified Early Childhood Educator, Social Worker, Community Services Worker or Nurse (Parent/Infant Mental Health or a related discipline)
  • Previous experience in early childhood settings and playbased learning
  • Experience in group facilitation
  • Accreditation in smalltalk parenting program an advantage
  • Drivers licence and access to own vehicle recommended
