The Manager Indigenous Engagement is a new position reporting to the Director Governance & Strategic Initiatives and sits in the

College of Vocational Education


In this role you will provide high level strategic advice and leadership to develop and implement College of VE and University-wide initiatives related to the engagement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander staff, students and partners, and the cultural capability of College of VE staff.


The incumbent will work collaboratively across RMIT to support whole-of-university efforts to embed sustainable reconciliation and build relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous staff, students and community.


You will be required to drive staff capability with regards to RMIT's responsible practice ambitions, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff engagement, and will build strong connections with Indigenous communities and organisations to co-design Indigenous led approaches to the College of VE's strategic directions.

The role works to achieve our ambitions outlined in RMIT's 9-year strategy, Knowledge with Action.

To be successful in this position, you'll have:

  • Community connectedness and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and organisations.
  • A thorough understanding of systemic barriers and challenges experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities specifically but not limited to Victoria.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including building productive relationships with a wide range of groups, which include Indigenous community, industry partners and internal business units.
  • The ability to represent the College of VE and RMIT externally
  • Experience with diverse key stakeholder groups to drive an Indigenous self-determination agenda.
  • Experience in the development and management of programs, project management and researching policy
  • Proven project management skills including the capacity to initiate and assist in continuous improvement in a dynamic environment and to provide strategic advice and support to senior management.
  • Desired Qualifications:
  • Relevant degree and/or qualifications and experience.
  • Experience in Vocational Education would be highly valued
