About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as a Manager, Indigenous Engagement. This is a new leadership opportunity that will play a critical role in developing and implementing initiatives to engage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, students, and partners, and to build cultural capability within our organization.

The successful candidate will provide high-level strategic advice and leadership to drive our reconciliation and inclusion agenda, working collaboratively across the university to achieve our ambitions outlined in our 9-year strategy, Knowledge with Action. This includes our five Indigenous Strategic Commitments: Reconciliation to Responsible Practice, Indigenous Students, Indigenous Knowledges - Research, Learning & Teaching, Community Engagement, and Indigenous Staff.

The Manager, Indigenous Engagement will be responsible for developing and managing programs, projects, and research initiatives that promote Indigenous self-determination and cultural capability. They will work closely with Indigenous community, industry partners, and internal business units to drive an Indigenous self-determination agenda and to build strong connections with Indigenous communities and organizations.

The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of systemic barriers and challenges experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills. They will be able to represent the university externally and drive staff capability with regards to RMIT's responsible practice ambitions, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff engagement, and cultural capability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement initiatives to engage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, students, and partners
  • Provide high-level strategic advice and leadership to drive our reconciliation and inclusion agenda
  • Develop and manage programs, projects, and research initiatives that promote Indigenous self-determination and cultural capability
  • Work closely with Indigenous community, industry partners, and internal business units to drive an Indigenous self-determination agenda
  • Represent the university externally and drive staff capability with regards to RMIT's responsible practice ambitions, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff engagement, and cultural capability
Requirements
  • Relevant degree and/or qualifications and experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to represent the university externally
  • Experience in the development and management of programs, projects, and research initiatives
  • Proven project management skills
