The Government Advocacy Specialist will focus on strengthening Arts Centre Melbourne's relationships with federal, state and local government departments, identifying and advising on opportunities that align with our strategic plan. Through this advocacy, we seek to elevate our position as a premier destination and a leader in the arts and cultural landscape.

In this role, you will report to the Deputy CEO and will support both the CEO and Deputy CEO to build and maintain relationships with parliamentary and public service stakeholders. The role is also responsible for liaising and coordinating activities with the portfolio Minister's Office, the portfolio Department (currently DJSIR) and with Creative Victoria.

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide advice to the CEO, Deputy CEO, Executive and leaders on political and government policy issues relevant to ACM's strategic priorities

  • Have the ability to shape key messages and advocate for organisational priorities and funding

Your Qualifications, Skills and Experience (key criteria)

  • 5+ years' experience in government or government relations at state and/or federal level
  • Tertiary qualifications in political science, public policy and administration, or communications will be highly regarded
  • Demonstrated track record in establishing advocacy and influence across multiple relationship domains with key government stakeholders
  • Confidence and experience in communicating with stakeholders at government level and industry professionals
  • Proven experience working and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams and cross-organisational functions to achieve results

Arts Centre Melbourne acknowledges the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land on which we gather, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung. We also acknowledge the neighbouring Kulin Nation groups, the Boonwurrung and Bunurong people, and pay our respects to elders, past and present.

Beneath our iconic Spire, in Hamer Hall and at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, we showcase the best of Australian and international performing arts.

We're proudly the home of our flagship Resident Companies – The Australian Ballet, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Theatre Company and Opera Australia – and a range of presenters who collectively bring our stages and spaces to life.

Together with our own program of performances, events and experiences we offer a diversity of audiences a distinctly multidimensional approach to participation, education and engagement with the breadth of the performing arts.

We are now focused on Reimagining Arts Centre Melbourne as part of the Victorian Government's commitment to transforming the Melbourne Arts Precinct into a thriving, connected creative and civic space over the coming years.
