This is an exciting time to join La Trobe University as we roll out a new Cisco software-defined network across all campuses. As the Associate Director, Network Management, you'll shape the future of our network infrastructure, advancing technology-enabled learning and innovation.
Skills and Experience
To be considered for this position, you will have
- Enterprise Network Architecture: Solid understanding of modern enterprise network architecture principles.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in routing and switching technologies, network security, wireless networking, and network monitoring.
- Network Technologies: Experience with TCP/IP networking, load balancing, network virtualisation, and cloud networking.
- Certifications: Industry-recognised accreditation (CCNA, CCNP, CCIE) and basic knowledge of programming languages (preferably Python) and REST APIs.
- Leadership & Management: Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate teams, resolve conflicts, and build collaborative relationships.
- Staff Performance: Proven experience in managing staff performance and development.
- Leadership Capabilities: Demonstrated leadership capabilities with the ability to motivate and manage a high-performing team.
- Industry Experience: Extensive knowledge and skills with many years of relevant experience in the Australian University sector or a breadth of professional experience in the industry.
- Communication Skills: Strong communication skills with the ability to resolve conflicts and confer with peers in other higher education organisations to determine best practice approaches.
- Network Expertise: Expertise in network architecture, including designing, configuring, and optimising network topologies (VXLAN, MP-BGP, LISP).
- Routing & Switching: Proficiency in routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, ISIS, BGP) and switching technologies (Catalyst 9000 series).
- Security Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of network security concepts, including firewalls (Palo Alto), VPNs, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and encryption protocols.
- Wireless Networks: Experience in designing, deploying, and managing wireless networks (e.g., WPA2, 802.1X).
- Monitoring Tools: Familiarity with network monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, SolarWinds, DNAC, ISE, Umbrella).
- Network Protocols: Understanding of TCP/IP protocols, subnetting, IP addressing, and DNS/DHCP configuration (Infoblox).
- Load Balancing & Virtualisation: Knowledge of load balancing technologies (e.g., F5 BIG-IP) and network virtualisation technologies (e.g., VMware NSX, Cisco ACI).
- Cloud Networking: Understanding of cloud networking concepts and services (e.g., AWS VPC, Azure Virtual Network).
- Vendor & Compliance: Ability to evaluate network hardware and software vendors, negotiate contracts, and manage vendor relationships.
- Documentation & Compliance: Proficiency in documenting network configurations, policies, and procedures, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., Privacy Act 1988) and industry standards (e.g., ISO
- Disaster Recovery: Knowledge of disaster recovery planning and business continuity strategies to minimise network downtime.
