  • The ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with members of the school community including students and the capacity to provide support to students where necessary
  • The ability to effectively liaise with school staff including the Principal Team and Business Manager, suppliers and other outside agencies
  • Ability to accept and implement instructions and to complete designated tasks, without supervision.

Role:

Purpose:


The role is to manage the operations of the library to support high quality teaching and learning at Camberwell High School, in line with the school's vision for learning.

The position is a member of the Education Support staff and reports directly to the Business Manager.

Accountabilities:

  • Promote a positive learning environment and culture in line with the Schools Vision for Learning
  • Support educational programs through provision of appropriate resources and preparation of user guides.
  • Maintenance of library management system: cataloguing, processing materials and following up overdue items.
  • Manage and support the library staff.
  • Manage the library budget.
  • To abide by the Schools Child Safety Code of Conduct and fully support the Child Safe Policy
This is the minimum range for positions that carry a mandatory qualification requirement of not less than four years.


Professional support and guidance will be close at hand and deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.


An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor.


Responsibilities:

Duty Statement:

  • Teacher and Student Support_
  • Lead the Library team to provide resources and information strategies to support learning to staff, students and parents when appropriate and to develop students as successful users of information and resources.
  • Liaise with teaching staff to understand curriculum requirements and ordering resources.
  • Assist teachers and students in locating reference materials and internet resources.
  • Curation of web tools and resources for specific curriculum requests.
  • Undertake instruction to students in specific areas e.g. databases searching, as required.
  • Work with students one on one to assist with their wider reading and other learning needs.
- _Administration/Operations_

  • Responsible for the daytoday operation of the library and supervise the work of the library team.
  • Manage and preparation of the Library budget including the selection and ordering of resources.
  • Organise and maintain specialist collections and equipment e.g. Class sets and school archives.
- _Professional service_

  • Manage the automated library catalogue system.
  • Coordinate the provision of documentation, policies and procedures for the system.
  • Provision of staff and student training including training library staff.
  • Liaison with school computer coordinator to maintain hardware and software including the intranet and web based catalogue.
  • Lead the library team in the preparation and set up of displays and exhibitions.
  • Coordinate the preparation of the school booklist.
  • Coordinate and lead the end of year library stocktake.
Ensure the provision of a range of administrative support functions for the Principal and teaching staff.
