As the Digital Communications Officer, your role is to lead the planning, creation, and distribution of content across various platforms, including LGAQ publications and websites, ensuring effective and credible communication to members, stakeholders, and the public.

Working closely with the Manager, Member Communications and the Senior Social Media and Digital Communications Officer, you will contribute to best-practice communications strategy and materials to enhance member value.

Encouraging applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds and identities, we believe that a diverse team better represents our membership.

This is a full-time position based in Newstead, Queensland. The ideal candidate will thrive in our collaborative culture and enjoy contributing to Queensland communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation and production of high-quality strategic LGAQ video, audio, and digital content for distribution across platforms following industry best practices.
  • Oversee the production of LGAQ publications, such as Council Leader magazine and Electronic Direct Mail (EDMs), maintaining high standards and focusing on continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders on producing digital content for the CEO Weekly Wrap, Association websites, and media releases.
  • Assist in preparing media releases and multimedia publications while responding to media inquiries related to Queensland local government.
  • Create, author, and edit digital content, film, and media campaigns to engage audiences effectively.
  • Research and craft material for internal and public relations activities to promote local government.
  • Provide multimedia training and support to colleagues, deliver presentations, and facilitate workshops at LGAQ events.
  • Develop innovative digital communication strategies, offer strategic advice, and ensure delivery of key messages across multimedia platforms.
  • Suggest solutions to improve member engagement and support Queensland councils in enhancing their digital presence.
  • Assist with website content coordination, analyze communication activities, and build relationships with stakeholders.
  • Adhere to relevant legislation and organizational policies while contributing to the organizational culture.
  • Undertake travel as needed for the role.
About You

To excel in this role, you should have:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Journalism, or Marketing.
  • At least 5 years of experience in communications, publications, digital media, or public relations.
  • A collaborative approach, strong communication skills, and a passion for working in teams.
  • Knowledge of print, media, and digital communication production.
  • Experience in filming, editing, writing, and crafting engaging content.
  • Project management skills, ability to set and meet deadlines, and translate complex issues into easily understandable messages.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and analytical skills, with the capacity to work independently or in a team.
  • Problem-solving abilities, a driver's license, and willingness to travel.
Additional qualifications that would be beneficial:
  • Understanding of Queensland state and local politics.
  • Experience with infographics and Adobe Creative Cloud programs.

With a caring and inclusive culture, LGAQ values Caring, Accountable, Respectful behaviours, and engaged leaders. As an equal opportunity employer, we encourage applications from diverse candidates and embrace flexible working arrangements.
