CSIRO's Space and Astronomy business unit (S&A), provides facilities from Australia and around the world to explore our solar system and beyond.

S&A's Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex (CDSCC) supports ground-based spacecraft telecommunications as part of NASA's Deep Space Network (DSN).

Currently supporting over 40 missions, CDSCC ensures that the critical science obtained by robotic spacecraft throughout the solar system is communicated back to Earth.

CDSCC has played major roles in NASA's highest profile missions, including Voyager I and II, Cassini, New Horizons, Artemis 1, Mars Science Laboratory (Curiosity) and the James Webb Space telescope (JWST).


Leading the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Team at the CDSCC, you will provide and facilitate support in a diverse range of IT services; hardware, intranet and network infrastructure, IT security and all ground telecommunications for the CDSCC as part of the DSN.

The support consists of network administration, including system design and maintenance of IT and networking systems, help desk, policy development and intranet.

As the ICT Team Leader, you will join the ICT Group within the Operations and Engineering Section (OES).

ICT implements and maintains the Flight Data Network which is developed by the customer (JPL) with input from the ICT group.

You will also be responsible for ensuring the reliability of site public address, internal and external voice communication, radio system and structured cabling, and you will assist in maintaining the physical security system.


Your duties will be focussed in the following key areas:


  • Leadership and management: Manage work and professional development of ICT team members; planning, scheduling, budgeting, reporting, technical writing, auditing.

ICT systems support: Develop ICT strategy and system architecture, lead multi-disciplined staff, liaise with customers, direct and coordinate complex technical projects, develop and implement procedures and system documentation, ensure compliance, provide out-of-hours emergency support.

General: Work collaboratively and communicate appropriately with clients and team colleagues, adhere to HSE procedures, diversity initiatives and zero harm goals.

Salary:
AU$118,289 ‐ AU$142,732 pa (pro‐rata for part‐time) + up to 15.4% superannuation

Indefinite - 9-day fortnight, either full-time or part-time (minimum 0.8 FTE)

To be considered you will need:

  • A degree in an IT related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience managing ICT systems, assets and budgets, including service reporting.
  • Leadership experience in a similar ICT service delivery customerfocused environment.
  • The ability to read, analyse and interpret professional journals, technical publications and reports, and procedure manuals.
  • The ability to foster teamwork and develop effective working relationships.
  • Selfmotivation with a commitment to providing quality and timely.
  • The ability to exercise sound judgement and act on initiative particularly when under operational pressure and with mínimal direction.
  • A current Australia Class 'C' driver's licence (or equivalent).
