Wintringham is a not-for-profit organisation providing an extensive range of aged care, housing and related support services to men and women aged 50-plus who have been homeless or at risk of homelessness.

We employ over 950 staff and operate from multiple offices across Melbourne, Tasmania and regional Victoria.

We distance ourselves from a 'one-size-fits-all' approach to recreation and our multi-skilled Recreation team blend elements of recreation and leisure counselling to create an individualised approach to activities that are both meaningful and tailored to our clients' interests.


Your new role


Wintringham is seeking a Recreation Officer/Coordinator, on a casual basis, to be part of the dynamic and friendly Recreation team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic team player available to work in this dual role across our metro sites including Williamstown, McLean, Port Melbourne, Ron Conn, Gilgunya, Eunice Seddon and Angus Martin.


As a Recreation Officer, your responsibilities and duties include:

  • Assisting with the facilitation of planned recreation activities.
  • Encouraging and supporting resident participation.
  • Identifying and reporting back recreation activities and interest specific to individual residents.
  • Assisting individual or groups of residents with access to offsite opportunities ranging from shopping and lunch outings to theatre and football trips, etc, etc.
  • Assisting with relevant documentation, as directed by the Rec Coordinator
  • General duties as directed be the Rec Coordinator

As a Recreation Coordinator, your responsibilities and duties include:

  • Co-ordinating and developing a recreation program designed to meet the individual leisure needs of all residents.
  • Supporting and leading members of the recreation team in the development and facilitation of recreation programs.
  • Identify, plan, and facilitate recreation activities important to the individual clients.
  • Encouraging and supporting clients to participate in their recreation pursuits, including maintaining their community associations and contacts.
  • Ensuring relevant documentation is accurate and up to date
  • Understanding and utilising recreational opportunities available within the broader community
  • The successful applicant will have either relevant experience working within the social sector, or be degree qualified (looked upon favourably) in Leisure and Lifestyle, Psychology, Community Development or a similar discipline
  • Current drivers' licence (mandatory)
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates will be looked on favourably
  • Experience in recreational program planning and implementation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, diplomacy, and tact
  • The ability to work autonomously and within a team
  • Interest in Social Justice Issues highly valued
  • Experience working with clients who come from a disadvantaged background (highly advantageous)
  • A nonjudgmental attitude
