This role is an Australia-based, fully work-from-home position, however there will be occasional travel (on the road) with access to co-working spaces in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.


We are seeking a dynamic Trade and Compliance Specialist to enhance our import/export operations and maintain our high standards of compliance.


Key Responsibilities:

Coordinate Trade Activities:

  • Collaborate with freight forwarders, customs brokers, agents, and transport providers to ensure timely and efficient shipments.
  • Drive best practices and continuous improvement in our import/export processes.
  • Oversee international logistics from suppliers to warehouse receipt.
  • Maintain precise records for import/export transactions, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, permits, licenses, customs declarations, and compliance reports.
  • Engage with governmental bodies for product classifications, certifications, and trade reporting.
  • Negotiate and secure competitive rates with brokers and other agents.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Provide expert guidance on compliance requirements, documentation, and procedures.
  • Stay current with evolving regulations, tariffs, and sanctions.
  • Ensure all import/export activities comply with applicable laws, minimizing risks of delays, fines, and penalties.
  • Develop and implement compliance programs, including policies, procedures, and training.
  • Liaise with the TGA, Office of Drug Control, and the Australian Border Force.

Risk Assessments:

  • Assess and mitigate risks related to import/export activities.
  • Identify potential compliance gaps and recommend strategies to address them.

Managing Audits and Investigations:

  • Conduct internal audits to ensure adherence to trade laws.
  • Support external audits and work promptly to rectify any compliance issues.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience working with Imports and exports, Pharmaceutical space, raw material natural products and or commodities.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, law or related field.
  • Previous experience in import/export, legal or regulatory compliance environment is essential.
  • Understanding of trade regulations, tariffs and sanctions.
  • Understanding the Medical Cannabis industry would be advantageous.
  • Current Satisfactory Police Check.
