As the Senior Systems Engineer you will report to the Mission System Design Manager and you will be responsible for leading, mentoring, developing, and guiding the Defence Engineering team to achieve their full potential, you will also be accountable for workflow priorities.


Key Accountabilities:
Coordinate project integration across teams using Systems Engineering management principles and processes.

Lead systems engineering to ensure defined requirements are delivered within the specified time frame and exercise authority and control of the team.

Provide technical rigour and oversight on the development and maintenance of engineering artefacts throughout the engineering lifecycle.

This includes activities and documentation associated with requirements definition and management; traceability; engineering change; configuration control; verification and validation; and sustainment.

Champion the use of rigorous system development methods to ensure safe, secure, and reliable systems.
Review and approval of engineering design packages, within delegated engineering authority.

Provide leadership and coordination in the areas of safety management, project and product configuration engineering, and ILS.Coordinate verification and validation activities across all work streams.

Provide requirements analysis and management with the use of software management tools such as DOORs, Jira, Confluence, UML, etc...Customer liaison relating to Systems Engineering Management (including system review processes).Mentoring Junior members of the engineering team.

Manage defence client interfaces and client relationships.
Development of company procedures and contractual architecture deliverable.

Proactively promoting quality, environmental responsibility & safety within the workplace, encouraging an outcome of Birdon being a place of work by choice.

Actively participating in the continued growth of the business.

Tertiary qualifications at degree level in a relevant engineering discipline.10 years' experience in leading teams for an engineering organization in a relevant industry.

Highly proficient in defence programs, government acquisitions and project systems.
Proactive manner demonstrating strong commercial aptitude and interpersonal skills.

Highly Proficient in Microsoft Office softwareAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, identify work priorities in a constantly changing environment.

Previous experience building capability and systems in a team and a developing organisation.
Chartered Professional Engineering status in relevant discipline.
Defence System Engineering specific experience highly desirable.
Knowledge of engineering and design principles, systems, techniques, and industry standards. Experience in Defence contracting preferred.
Ability to develop system documents, process standards, and high-level reporting.
Understanding of military and government project documentation standards.
