The role of the Senior Legal Counsel is to provide commercial legal advice to business units within the Fund and to assist the Legal Department in managing legal risk within the Fund.
You will review, negotiate, draft and settle contracts as required, including services agreements, master supply agreements and consulting agreements. You will also negotiate and run major commercial transactions (non-investment related) and assist with the resolution of contract-related disputes with suppliers and other third parties.
This role is open to full time employment or part time of 4 days a week.
Other duties may include but are not limited to:
- Assist with the review and development of policies and procedures.
- Assist business units in managing their legal risks.
- Provide input into process improvements and precedent documents.
- Research legal questions including in relation to complex legal areas and matters and provide legal advice in an easily understood format.
- Research and interpret complex legislation and case law affecting the organisation and ensure that relevant business units are informed of new or proposed legislation and policy.
- Develop and provide training on legal issues as required.
- Manage matters briefed to external lawyers and present external legal advice to the business with a commercial lens.
What you'll need
- Current Victorian Legal Practicing Certificate or eligible to be admitted to practice law in Victoria (Mandatory).
- Minimum of 8 years' post qualification experience (PQE).
- Background in general corporate and commercial law.
- Superior interpersonal, drafting, negotiating and written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work co-operatively in a dynamic team but also able to work autonomously and proactively and to set own work plan in order to meet deadlines.
- Ability to resolve internal escalations and provide commercially focused legal support.
- Experience in advising superannuation funds and/or superannuation law experience and project management skills are desirable, as is in-house legal experience.
