The Role
The Families and Young People Services Team currently have a Permanent Full-time vacancy for a Case Worker to work within our New Families Program based in Nudgee.
As a Case Worker, you will conduct a parenting assessment on the mother's capacity to meet the needs of her baby and develop an intervention plan to meet the identified needs in line with the departments case plan.
The role requires you to work with mothers to improve their parenting skills and gain confidence in caring for their baby, including understanding how their parenting choices can impact on their ability to be a mother, and provide support and education around behaviours that put their baby at risk (including substance abuse, exposure to domestic and family violence, stress responses and health concerns); and connect with relevant community agencies to build a robust safety and support network for the mother and their baby long term.
To be eligible for this position you will require:
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Behavioural Sciences, Psychology or related discipline and relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in the assessment and the provision of family support to vulnerable children and families.
- Demonstrated understanding of First Nation peoples, cultures and societies and the issues which impact upon them in contemporary society together with a commitment to culturally safe engagement and practice.
- Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills and the ability to produce clear, accurate and concise written case notes and reports, meeting preset timeframes.
- A Queensland Drivers Licence (Green Provisional (P2 or Open Licence)
- You must hold a current positive notice in the Working with Children Check (Blue Card) and have the ability to obtain any other legislatively required personal history screening as required.
- Evidence of current vaccination against whooping cough or willingness to obtain prior to commencement.
