_ Role Purpose_


Reporting to the Head of Operations & Delivery, the Delivery Lead is responsible for operational excellence across the sector portfolio and leadership of the delivery teams within it.


Working with the business development team, the Delivery Lead will drive the definition of creative and realistic solutions to customer problems and support the bid assurance process.


The Delivery Lead is accountable for successful project or service delivery to customers from contract acceptance to project close across the Sector portfolio and is responsible for managing allocated resources across the projects and accurate forecasting of future resource demand.


The Sector portfolio will consist of a range of project sizes from sub GBP100k to programs >GBP5m and includes 24×7 support services.

The role is a demanding role and temporary work in excess of "9-5" may be required from time-to-time in addition to regular domestic travel.


Core Duties

Primary accountabilities:

  • Leadership, management and day to day tasking of delivery teams allocated to the Sector (onshore, offshore, blended and multisite model execution)
  • Management of delivery of all projects within the Sector portfolio in accordance with the Assurance Framework and accountable for quality, schedule and costs and bestpractice project controls from mobilisation to project close
  • Develop effective business relationships with customer project managers, manage their expectations and assure timely project delivery within allocated budgets
  • Ensure and drive responsiveness to customers and identify areas for improvements in service, staffing and operations that will increase customer satisfaction
  • Report on the operational and financial health of sector including overview of staffing, workflow, volume and other key financial metrics for presentation of findings and recommendations to senior management
  • Support bids and strategic campaigns (in a presales/SME capacity) to share and focus key messages, supporting customer engagement where appropriate
  • Act as the primer for any cross functional selling / new customer requirements emerging from existing deliveries and work with the business development team to win followon work
  • Lead on building a sense of community and engagement within the integrated project teams across their sector
  • Manage delivery team performance and act as an escalation point for employee performance, working with HoOD and Career Managers to resolve issues

Demand and Resourcing Management accountabilities:

  • Provide input into the Capabilities forecasting process by converting demand from inflight projects into headcount and skills requirements
  • Undertake forward planning and future demand forecasting for opportunities aligned to the Sector portfolio
  • Support recruitment of new talent, working with hiring managers including internal/external recruitment, redeployments and internal transfers
  • Provide input into Capabilities financial and utilisation forecast for the sector

Expert accountabilities:

  • Advocate novel or improved delivery approaches and process to business leadership and customers
  • Be recognised as an expert and point of contact for the sector both internally and externally
  • With the Sector business development team, define and support the future direction of the Sector

Career Management accountabilities:

  • Provide support, career guidance and mentoring for staff within the aligned workforce
  • Provide leadership shape a workforce with appropriate skills, culture, attitudes and motivation
  • Provide input into the Talent Development and Succession Planning process and support appropriate mentoring and coaching efforts to promote and encourage highpotential employees

  • Leads projects spanning multiple practices & disciplines managing risks, results, delays and profitability.
  • Designs, adapts and applies the most relevant implementation approach to meet client needs
  • Influence senior stakeholders to secure sponsorship for largescale change, challenging the status quo, shaping future vision and providing insight. Lead the development of change management processes, techniques, and have the credibility/experience to represent BAE Systems
