About the role:

  • You will be responsible for the coordination of proactive media opportunities to enhance Water Corporation's reputation as an innovative, safe and reliable water services provider to the people of Western Australia.
  • Combining political acumen with exceptional written and verbal communication skills, you will be part of a dynamic team working closely with Government and senior management in a fastpaced, issuesrich environment.
  • As the Corporation's media liaison, you will be tasked with providing timely, accurate and concise responses to media enquiries, and maintaining strong working relationships with media contacts across WA.
  • You will also be responsible for supporting the Corporation's communication response to operational incidents, working with other agencies and stakeholders to ensure the prompt release of public information. This function requires some afterhours work on an oncall, rostered basis.
  • Strong decisionmaking and organisational skills, a keen sense of newsworthiness and an ability to process complex information into engaging messages is needed to succeed in the role. A background in news media and/or corporate communications is preferred.
  • We are a creative and energetic team that operates in a respectful and honest environment. With a strong customerservice function, we place relationships at the forefront of all we do and are always looking for new ways to help shape community perception of our State's most precious resource water and its longterm security.

You will:

  • Write and edit media statements, key messages, speeches and other communication materials to support Water Corporation and Ministerial activities.
  • Provide dependable, highlevel media and communications advice to Water Corporation's senior leaders and Water Minister's Office.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and an ability to write clearly, concisely and to message.
  • Coordinate public information in response to operational incidents, state emergencies and crises on a rostered oncall basis, including after hours.
  • Be confident liaising with media contacts and managing the communications response to contentious issues.
  • Prepare and deliver strategic communication plans as required.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and work proactively to identify media opportunities in support of key corporate and Government objectives
  • Be highly organised and have the ability to work to tight deadlines and in a fastpaced environment.
  • Work as part of tightknit team that is passionate about customer service and driving organisational values.

Key skills and experience:

  • Degree level qualification in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience working in or with media, generating positive media coverage and responding to enquiries.
  • Demonstrated experience writing to a high standard and processing complex information into engaging content.
  • Demonstrated experience managing contentious issues and crisis communications for a large, complex organisation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate successful outcomes with stakeholders of all levels.
  • Current valid driver's licence and able to work on rotating roster out of normal business hours.
