The Medicines Safety and Quality (MSQ) Program contributes to achievement of deliverables for the safe clinical processes stream of the Commission's Work Plan.

This includes action and guidance to support safe and quality use of medicines.

The MSQ Program also supports the Commission's contribution to implementation of the National Medicines Policy and the National Strategy for Quality Use of Medicines.


The MSQ Program is responsible for the ongoing stewardship of nationally standardised tools and systems used in the Australian health system to prescribe, dispense, and administer medicines safely.

The Commission promotes quality use of medicines stewardship by collecting data and reporting on the use of medicines, developing national guidance, and supporting cross sector engagement.

The MSQ Program oversees supporting resources for health service organisations regarding the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards Medication Safety standard, and the medication safety requirements of other national standards.

Duties of the Project Officer will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Undertake project management activities including input into project planning and documentation; assistance with implementation; monitoring and reporting on progress, identifying problems, and proposing possible solutions.
  • Research, review and analyse data, reports, published material and expert opinion to provide information and advice to support the development of projects and program initiatives.
  • Collate, edit, and draft meeting papers, correspondence, discussion papers, submissions, consultation materials, briefing notes and other written materials associated with the program.
  • Provide secretariat support for committees and expert groups, including preparation of agenda papers, meeting notes, logistics and other administrative tasks.
  • Undertake procurement and contract management activities including financial administration and budget preparation and monitoring as necessary.
  • Collaborate with other team members and other program teams within the Commission to support the work of the team.
  • Liaise with national and state authorities, professional organisations, individuals, and nongovernment organisations to progress the program's work priorities.
  • Other duties as required which may include projects and aiding with the Commission's corporate functions.
  • Welldeveloped oral and written communication skills including demonstrated ability to prepare documents including briefing papers, reviews, submissions, correspondence, and meeting papers.
  • Strong conceptual, analytical and research skills, including demonstrated sound judgement and innovative problemsolving skills.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively and develop productive working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • Effective teamwork skills including the ability to work collaboratively to achieve results and outcomes in a timely manner.
