The Catholic Schools Office (CSO) is responsible for the leadership, operation and management of systemic schools which educate more than 21,000 students in 44 primary schools, 11 secondary schools, one K-12 school, one flexible learning centre and one special school in the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.


The role, Education/Professional Officer - Positive Behaviour will:

  • Provide support and guidance for schools to develop clear and consistent, evidence-based whole school approaches to model, support and promote positive behaviour, consistent with diocesan policies and procedures.
  • Support the development of a consistent, diocesan Positive Behaviour approach, underpinned by the Multi-Tier System of Support, with an emphasis on delivering a proactive, instructional approach to student behaviour at the wholeschool level (Tier 1).
  • Support schools to explicitly teach social and emotional skills, safe and responsible student behaviour and school expectations, informed by data, to promote student learning and wellbeing.
  • Build capacity of staff to address the effective classroom management in diocesan schools.
  • Facilitate impactful Positive Behaviour professional learning to/for schools, that embeds and sustains PB4L practices.
  • Collect, collate, evaluate and report on data from Positive Behaviour initiatives and school implementation.

Desired Skills and Experience:

EXPERIENCE/CRITERIA

  • Ability to articulate a clear understanding of and a personal commitment to Catholic education and the mission of the Church through Catholic schools
  • Capacity to provide specific advice regarding evidenceinformed positive behaviour management to schools, with a wide range of experience across a range of Primary and Secondary school settings.
  • Demonstrated capacity to facilitate quality Positive Behaviour support within the educational environment in K12 settings.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and the capacity to develop and sustain productive relationships within and beyond school communities.
  • Capacity to use analytical and strategic thinking skills to lead embedded evidencebased Positive Behaviour programs and services which support the needs of students, informed by data.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the legislation and policies that impact on schooling, particularly in relation to student behaviour and student support, including the Disability Standards for Education 2005 and the Disability Discrtiminaction Act 199
  • Sound knowledge of current research in relation to wellbeing and positive behaviour.
  • School / System Leadership experience is desirable.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Qualifications as a fouryear trained teacher, or in a field that is credible and relevant to the role.
  • Active NESA / Professional Accreditation.
  • Current paid NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) number.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary is in accordance with Catholic Schools Office, Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle Employees Enterprise Agreement 2019.
