Closing Date: 30/06/2024- Job Type: Contract- Location: Newcastle West- Job Category: Education, Childcare & TrainingThe Catholic Schools Office is currently seeking two temporary full-time Virtual Academy Educators to join the team for the remainder of the year.


The Catholic Schools Office (CSO) is responsible for the leadership, operation and management of systemic schools which educate more than 20,000 students in 45 primary schools, 11 secondary schools, two K-12 schools, one flexible learning centre in the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.

The Virtual Academy Educator works with a group of students identified as highly/profoundly gifted (primarily stages 3 and 4) to learn with autonomy and engage with intellectual peers and expert mentors by:

  • Taking a key role in the provision of a stimulating and enriching learning environment to enable highly and profoundly gifted students to explore and build on their gifts (APST 4).
  • Building the knowledge and pedagogy about gifted education to create an authentic continuum of learning (APST 2 & 3).
  • Acknowledging academic requirements of the gifted child (APST 5).
  • Engaging in professional learning to provide innovative and advanced curricula with local, national and global perspectives that are beyond the scope of the regular classroom (APST 6).
  • Being involved in a network of shared expertise in gifted education by engaging with colleagues, parents/carers and the community (APST 7).
  • Identifying the social and emotional needs of the gifted child (APST 1).

Desired Skills and Experience:

EXPERIENCE/CRITERIA

  • Ability to articulate a clear understanding of and a personal commitment to Catholic education and the mission of the Church through Catholic schools
  • Demonstrated capacity as an effective, skilled classroom practitioner who routinely works independently and collaboratively to improve their own practice and the practice of colleagues.
  • High level interpersonal skills with the capacity to develop and sustain constructive and respectful relationships within and beyond the community
  • Demonstrated excellent organisation and communication and ICT skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively utilise data to optimise organisational and educational outcomes
  • Have completed, or agree to complete, Mini Certificate in Gifted Education (Mini COGE) or equivalent or postgraduate studies in gifted education
  • Demonstrated innovative and agile mindset that supports and enhances a culture of continuous improvement
  • Willingness to Comply or Compliance with the CSO Accreditation to Work, Teach and Lead Policy.
  • Experience supporting students working in an educational online environment (Desirable);
  • Experience as a Gifted Education Mentor or teacher in a Gifted Education Lead School (Desirable);
  • Professional Learning in gifted education and or the Virtual Academy (Desirable).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Fouryear trained teacher classification with at least five years successful teaching experience and accredited at proficient level.
  • NESA Teacher Accreditation
  • Working with Children Clearance number

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary is in accordance with Catholic Schools Office, Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle Employees Enterprise Agreement 2020.
