Medical Operations Lead

Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Careers at Eucalyptus Full time

Eucalyptus (or 'Euc' for short) is a healthcare technology organisation on a mission to deliver high-touch, high-quality care to millions of patients. We have 4 healthcare brands that form the connective tissue between telehealth consults with doctors, pharmacy delivery and ongoing patient care. Our goal is to provide a differentiated and comprehensive care experience for a wide variety of patients and conditions.

We're well funded, having raised over $100M with our Series C round led by Aussie and US venture capital funds who were early backers of Airbnb, Canva, Uber, and Spotify.

About the role
Eucalyptus' brands work with multidisciplinary clinical teams to deliver care to patients across a range of conditions. The largest part of that clinical workforce is our prescribers.

These are highly experienced and dedicated GPs and Nurse Practitioners who are passionate about providing accessible and effective care to patients.

The Medical Operations team is responsible for ensuring Eucalyptus provides safe, high-quality and effective clinical services to patients.

The team does that by:

  • Ensuring we have sufficient prescriber supply to meet patient demand;
  • Measuring, monitoring and improving prescriber performance against key metrics.
We need an exceptional person to lead this team and own these responsibilities. This role sits in the leadership team for Clinical Operations.

This is an
operations role, not a clinical role. There is no need for clinical experience.

It's a big role — one day you'll be building the systems we use to manage an 80+ person workforce, the next you'll be presenting to the executive group on the drivers of one of the largest cost lines on our Operations P&L, and the next you'll be deep in the metrics to understand behaviours which drive patient outcomes.

On the
supply side, you'll be expected to answer questions like:

  • What are the workforce modelling requirements to meet business and patient expectations on first response time and quality?
  • How do you build a worldclass system for sourcing, hiring, onboarding and managing prescribers into Euc's clinical ecosystem?
  • What is the right level of latency to build into our prescriber workforce to ensure we have sufficient supply to meet unexpected spikes of demand?
  • How do you make sure you have enough prescribers for the night Euc runs an ad on the MAFS finale?
On the
performance side, you'll be expected to answer questions like:

  • How do you create a system which ensures prescribers always perform against our strict clinical standards while meeting the commercial requirements of a for-profit healthcare service?
  • How can we partner closely with experienced clinicians to ensure they meet patient expectations for quality and engagement?
  • How should we structure our prescriber workforce to align incentives?
  • What are the iterative improvements we can make to this workforce to ensure continuous improvements on quality and cost?
Once those core responsibilities are systemised and operating independently, you'll be expected to push the thinking for this function to create opportunities for 10x improvements

You'll consider issues like:

  • What problems should be solved be people, and what problems should be solved by technology? How do you build the right systems to quantify the impact of technology on the function? How can any changes be leveraged across multiple markets?
  • How can the function integrate AI to improve the safety, quality and cost of our services?
  • What is the role of the prescriber in a patient's healthcare journey? How does it change when that prescriber is part of a multidisciplinary clinical team? To what clinical metrics should hold our prescribers accountable?
This work is mission-critical.

About you
-
Clear communicator — your can craft compelling comms to all levels of an organisation;
-
Team-first — you play for the name on the front of the jersey, not the back; you create opportunities for your team to grow and thrive.
-
Persistent — you look for creative ways to push through roadblocks; where others quit, you find a way to keep going.
-
Enthusiastic — you know that leaders always show up prepared, and with a good attitude.
-
Ambitious — you are always reaching and encourage others to do the same.
-
Reflective — you are a magnet for feedback; you know how to ask for help when you need it.

Experience required

  • 4+ years experience in operations, consulting, law, banking or similar.
  • Experience managing a team and/or large projects & work streams.
  • Passionate about startups, healthcare or both.
  • This is an
operations role, not a clinical role. There is no need for clinical experience.

Bonus points:

  • Tech / startup experience, or healthcare exposure
