The Hon Jaclyn Symes MP, Attorney-General, is seeking expressions of interest from qualified individuals for a role as a member of the Professional Standards Council of Victoria.
About the Professional Standards Council of Victoria
- The Professional Standards Councils are independent statutory bodies with powers to assess and approve applications from occupational associations for professional standards schemes that limit civil liability.
- They play a crucial role in enhancing professional standards and safeguarding consumers by:
- Monitoring associations and members for compliance with professional standards.
- Advising Ministers on professional standards within associations.
- Promoting the development of associations' regulation to protect consumers.
- Providing research, resources, and guidance on professional standards and regulation.
- Planning projects to enhance associations' ability to protect consumers and elevate professional standards.
About the role
- The time commitment for Council members ranges from one to three days monthly, involving thorough preparation for meetings and making informed decisions.
- Meetings can be attended in person (Sydney CBD) or online.
- Members must meet statutory and financial obligations and possess a clear understanding of statutory decision-making within industry and government settings.

- Senior-level experience in a profession, occupational regulation, or consumer protection.
- Expertise in areas such as accounting, financial services, legal services, risk management, and government policy.
