This is a casual position at a HEP 3/1 classification level plus employer superannuation, working up to 21 hours per week until 31 December 2023. The position is located at the Sir Zelman Cowen Centre at 295 Queen Street Melbourne 3000.

About the role


The Sir Zelman Cowen Centre is a Victoria University centre which provides legal education, training and research, with a particular focus on law and cultural diversity.

We have a close-knit and multidisciplinary team, drawing together lawyers, community development professionals and events and communication professionals.

This role is a key part of that team, providing research and administrative assistance for a diverse range of training, research and community outreach projects.


About the person
We expect that you will have, or be in the process of completing, an undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as law, community development, arts or communications

You will also have:
- demonstrated experience in undertaking preliminary research
- well-developed written and verbal communication skills
- proficiency in systems and word processing software (e.g. Microsoft Word), and be able to quickly gain knowledge of new systems and processes in the University
- experience working cohesively as a team member in an administrative capacity
- knowledge or interest in current issues affecting the legal sector and/or culturally, religiously and linguistically

Experience in using social media would be advantageous.

Duties
The Research and Administration Assistant will support staff across SZCC in developing and administering a diverse range of programs and projects by:

  • undertaking research under supervision and guidance from the Director, Senior Manager or Legal Project Officers to inform and support SZCC's work
- performing a range of routine administrative and clerical support tasks including word processing, setting up meetings, answering general enquiries and updating databases
- assisting in the preparation of grants and tenders, including by collating relevant information
- assisting in preparation, setup and delivery of events
- developing and scheduling social media content under supervision and guidance from the Legal Project Officers
- complying with role related University policy, procedure and protocols
