About the Professional Standards Council of VictoriaThe Professional Standards Councils are independent statutory bodies with powers to assess and approve applications from occupational associations for professional standards schemes that limit the civil liability of members.

The Councils play a key role in improving professional standards and protecting consumers by:

Monitoring how well associations and their members meet the standards demanded by their professional standards schemesProviding Ministers with advice regarding the professional standards of members of associations, including the operation of professional standards schemesEncouraging and assisting the development of associations' regulation of their members and the protection of consumersDelivering research, resources, advice and information on professional standards and regulationDetermining future projects to build the capacity of associations to protect consumers and improve professional standards.

About the roleThe time commitment of Councils' members is approximately one to three days per month, which includes reading comprehensive papers for meetings, and the interpretation of each is relied on to make complex public-interest decisions.

Council members may attend meetings either in-person (Sydney CBD) or on-line.

Council members are required to fulfil the statutory and financial responsibilities of a Council member and understand the role of statutory decision-making from an industry and government perspective.

Who we're looking forExpressions of interest are sought from suitable candidates with:
Experience at a senior level in a profession or professional association, occupational regulation, professional standards or consumer protection.

A background in one or more of the following areas:

accounting,financial servicesactuarial science,complaints and disciplinary systems,continuous improvement strategies,legal services,professional ethics,professional indemnity insurance,professional negligence litigation,risk management/compliance systems,senior government policy or regulatory experience.
