About the Early Childhood Outcomes Division

The Early Childhood Outcomes Division leads the delivery of the Early Years Commitment program, including comprehensive investments in the critical first 5 years of life for every child - in child development and in early education and care, making investments that support families and the community now, as well as investing in long term reforms for the future.

Key initiatives will include supporting families with young children to access the services they need to support their own prosperity and wellbeing; valuing and growing the early childhood education and care sector and investing in early childhood teachers and educators.

The Universal Preschool Directorate has roles available across the three teams:

  • Universal Preschool Delivery
  • Universal Preschool Design; and
  • Centre for Excellence in Early Childhood Quality and Transitions.
Centre for Excellence in Early Childhood Quality and Transitions


The Centre for Excellence team is focused on designing and delivering policies, initiatives, tools and resources to support Early Childhood practice excellence, learning frameworks and assessment, transitions (including the transition to school) and learning quality preschool.

The Centre for Excellence is a multi-disciplinary team that recognises the importance of the early years and is focused on supporting the provision of high-quality early childhood education and care to all children and families in NSW.

Key knowledge and experience

Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

  • You will have the opportunity to lead early childhood teams where we are committed to delivering outcomes across a broad range of reform areas to improve the quality of early childhood education programs, to build a sustainable workforce, and to increase the affordability of early childhood education and care in NSW. The teams are focused on policy development, stakeholder engagement delivering programs and strategic priorities, with a particular focus on data, information and insights. We have a strong focus on engaging with families, communities and the sector to support children to learn and grow in their early years and beyond. Essential requirements of the role

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, or demonstrated equivalent knowledge and/or experience.
  • A valid Working With Children Check.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the
    value of public education
