The Housing Industry Association is Australia's peak residential building industry body.

HIA's primary role is to provide support and advice to our members in a range of specialty areas that affect their business.


We are currently seeking to appoint a Building Services Advisor to work with our NSW and ACT members by supporting them building and technical advice and assistance.

Based at our NSW office at Macquarie Park (Newcastle or Canberra Offices would also be considered), and working as part of a team, the key responsibilities of the successful applicant will include:

  • Research member concerns (and where necessary, confer with other HIA staff) to provide HIA members with complete and correct information in a timely manner;
  • Providing administrative and technical support, and attending the New South Wales Technical Committee and other committees as required;
  • Assisting in the preparation and delivery of technical training material, member alerts and publications for our members;
  • Assisting in the preparation of technical articles for inclusion in HIA and associated industry publications;
  • Contributing to the development of HIA building policies in relation to building regulations and technical matters; and
  • Representing HIA on external industry forums and bodies, such as Standards Australia Committees.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:

  • Relevant qualifications in a field directly associated with the residential building industry.
  • Relevant experience in the design, construction, supervision, inspection, or certification of residential buildings;
  • Sound knowledge of the building/planning approval arrangements and regulations in NSW (knowledge of the ACT would be viewed favourably);
  • Organisational ability and the capacity to manage competing demands;
  • Strong networking and communication skills with the ability to build rapport with HIA members and stakeholders to appropriately service their needs;
  • Welldeveloped research, writing and computer skills; and
  • The ability to produce material in a range of professional formats and styles for relevant target audiences.
