Visiting Medical Officer in Anaesthesia

John Hunter Hospital

Quinquennial and fixed term temporary appointments available


Applications are invited from suitably qualified consultants for the position of Visiting Medical Officer in Anaesthesia at John Hunter Hospital to provide anaesthetic and perioperative medical services to the patients of Hunter New England Local Health District.

Successful applicants will contribute to operational management of the anaesthetic and perioperative services whilst contributing to clinical, teaching, training and research activities of the Greater Newcastle Sector Anaesthetic Service.


Suitable applicants will have:

  • A primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists
  • Demonstrated recent and comprehensive experience in anaesthesia and perioperative medicine

Key accountabilities of the role include:

  • Provision of specialist perioperative and anaesthetic services, in and out of hours
  • Participation in the supervision, training and assessment of junior medical staff
  • Contribution to the management and organisation of the perioperative service
