Visiting Medical Officer in General Practice (GP VMO)

Join our team at Cessnock District Hospital as an experienced Visiting Medical Officer in General Practice. You'll play a crucial role in providing exceptional medical care to our patients in both our inpatient and emergency departments.

As a GP VMO with us, you'll:

  • Deliver high-quality inpatient and emergency department services to ensure the best possible care for our community.
  • Offer outpatient consultations and procedures in private practice, including participating in afterhours and oncall rotations for roundtheclock medical coverage.
  • Attend to accidents and emergencies at our hospital, providing basic and advanced resuscitation, managing presenting patients, and facilitating necessary referrals.
  • Handle acute medical emergencies like myocardial infarction, pulmonary edema, and diabetic ketoacidosis with expert advice and consultation.
  • Have the flexibility to work in a general practice setting if desired.
  • Benefit from specialist advice through established networks within our Local Health District.
  • Provide essential reports for workers' compensation, legal matters, and insurance companies as needed.
  • Hold a primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners or be due for completion within the next 6 months.
  • Demonstrate recent and comprehensive experience in General Practice.
  • Have completed or be undertaking an Emergency Life Support course, with skills and experience in Emergency Medicine.
  • Be available to participate in an afterhours/oncall roster seven days a week.

Additionally, Category A workers are required to receive a booster dose three months after completing the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
