About the position


Council's Procurement, Property & Risk Department is looking for an OHS Contractor Compliance Officer who will be responsible for safety associated with contractor management and the implementation of Contractor Safety Management Systems.


The main responsibilities will include:

  • Review, implement and administer Council's online Contractor OHS Management System and/or other related systems as required;
  • Build capability and provide support to Contract Managers across the organisation;
  • Undertake a rolling review and audit program to ensure ongoing compliance is maintained by Contractors being engaged by Council;
  • Foster collaborative working relationships across Council teams, as well as with contractors and external agencies, to promote and enhance the culture of safety in the workplace; and
  • Participate in the development, implementation and review of policies, procedures, guidelines and other tools for reviewing and assessing the health and safety systems (including Childsafe and National Heavy Vehicle Regulations) of Council's contractors.
This is a temporary part time role working 22 hours per week. Working days are flexible.

About you

  • High level communication and organisation skills;
  • A broad understanding of the functions of Local Government and OHS legislation;
  • High level of computer literacy across the Microsoft Office Suite;
  • A sound knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act 2004, OHS Regulations 2017 and other legislation regarding the safe management of contractors and suppliers; and
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in the conduct of workplace health and safety inspections and risk assessments, and the development of appropriate control measures.
