About the Opportunity

We have a new opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our Hunter Class Frigate Program based at SA-Osborne Naval Shipyard, reporting to the Manufacturing Delivery Lead. We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight. As the Manufacturing Engineer you will be responsible for providing guidance to Engineering and Production on manufacturability of piping designs using the capability of the equipment and facilities at the Osborne Naval Shipyard.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Delivering, validating and tailoring manufacturing processes, instructions, capability sheets, handbooks, and practices
  2. Provide technical and operational support that is accurate, safe, on-time and on-budget to support project and task activities
  3. Support Production issues, enabling speedy resolution for trades, capture of changes in documentation and approval of any manufacturing process changes
  4. Identify key risk and opportunities for pipework and mitigation plans
  5. Support the Prototyping & Production Readiness Reviews as required
  6. Ensure compliance with the SHE Management System, mitigating risks and improving overall SHE performance
  7. Identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives for the production processes
About You

Requirements:

  • A Trade or Degree level qualification in an engineering discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in pipe bending, manufacturing, and installation
  • Well-developed self-management skills and demonstrated ability to work under own initiative to deliver outputs to time, quality, and cost
  • Ability to apply Root Cause Analysis techniques and identify appropriate solutions to prevent and solve underlying problems
  • Ability to use Six Sigma methods and tools to improve processes and reduce defects and errors
  • Demonstrated good communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with colleagues within and outside the immediate team
