On a day-to-day basis you will be:

  • Connecting with diverse communities, including the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD), LGBTQIA+ individuals, and those at risk of suicide or homelessness.
  • Using your own story of recovery from mental health issues and/or flood experience to instil hope and recovery in others.
  • Supporting service users with structured activity such as linking with physical activity, housing, coordinating care with other services.
  • Organising, collaborating on, and hosting community events, including some that may take place outside regular hours as well as co-facilitating group programs with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Managing a database of local services and group programs and providing supportive referrals in consultation with the multidisciplinary team.

About you:

Are you currently studying, or have you completed a Certificate IV in Peer Work for Mental Health? Are you driven, enthusiastic, adaptable, and naturally inclined to connect with diverse individuals, including those who may be vulnerable, families, and healthcare professionals across various fields?

We are also looking for:

  • Demonstrated experience in community development, community capacity building or awareness raising and group work.
  • Strong networks and knowledge of local support services which people may be referred to.
  • Capacity to advocate, address barriers and engage flexibility with people.
  • Excellent computing and keyboard skills and proven experience with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Knowledge of the Acceptance and Commitment Model and Motivational Interviewing.
