About the opportunity

The position of Senior Policy Advisor presents a unique chance to have a significant impact on the outcomes for Australian consumers. Reporting directly to the Policy Manager, this role involves delivering research, analysis, and policy recommendations based on external sources and insights from complaints data and stakeholder feedback.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring and analyzing proposed financial services reforms, sharing insights with senior staff for submission decisions.
  • Providing guidance on policy and regulatory updates that may impact AFCA.
  • Gathering input from diverse stakeholders to shape strategies and submissions aligned with AFCA's goals.
  • Preparing responses to inquiries and government policies relevant to AFCA's functions.
  • Staying informed on policy and regulatory changes affecting AFCA.
  • Creating high-level briefs and reports.
  • Engaging with government officials on policy matters.
  • Collaborating with internal and external parties to develop and publish AFCA submissions.
  • Performing other relevant duties.

Qualifications

About you

To excel in this role, you should have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in public policy, law, or a related field.
  • Experience in policy analysis or advice across different sectors.
  • A solid grasp of the financial services landscape, regulations, and strategic concerns.
  • A deep understanding of political and policy environments.
  • Strong time management and stakeholder management skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Exceptional communication abilities, including writing clear and concise documents for various audiences.
  • Advanced research and analytical skills.
