About the position

The main goal of this role is to support a key research project at La Trobe University - the Australian Plant Phenomics Facility (APPF). Situated at the La Trobe Institute for Sustainable Agriculture and Food (LISAF) in Bundoora, these projects aim to drive both practical and theoretical research in plant biology, catering to both academic and industry needs.

The Australian Plant Phenomics Facility was founded in 2009 as part of the Australian Government's National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) to establish a globally integrated plant phenomics capability. The facility plays a crucial role in providing leadership in infrastructure, skills, and services for agricultural research and industry, maximizing productivity within Australia's diverse environment.

In January 2024, La Trobe University became a new node of the APPF, offering advanced plant phenomics services to industry and academia. This node will operate within a collaborative national network coordinated from the APPF Central at the University of Adelaide.

Collaborating closely with the Node Director and senior staff, the Senior Business Administrator will oversee the smooth functioning of the APPF-LTU node. Their responsibilities will include managing human and financial resources, monitoring performance, cultivating stakeholder relationships, and spearheading initiatives to enhance the facility's service delivery and outcomes.

In addition, they will play a role in identifying potential funding opportunities, preparing grant applications, and collaborating with the APPF General Manager Operations to ensure compliance with contractual obligations, financial reporting, and responding to requests from the Australian Government's Department of Education and Training.

Skills and Experience

To qualify for this role, candidates should have:

  • A degree with significant practical application of theories and principles gained through experience, management experience, postgraduate qualifications, or a mix of relevant knowledge and experience.
  • Proven ability to lead program/system development and implementation, coupled with strong self-motivation and personal management skills.
  • Familiarity with academic and administrative policies, financial management, and budget control.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including negotiation, motivation, influence, and relationship-building abilities.
