As the Queensland Government's builder, QBuild plays an important role in communities across the state by building and maintaining government-owned assets such as schools, social housing, police stations and correctional and health facilities.
With almost 1,400 staff and a network that includes 20 offices and 34 depots across the state, QBuild is well positioned to deliver construction and maintenance services to communities including those in regional and remote areas.
This role is based at the SEQ QBuild Rapid Accommodation and Apprenticeship Centre.The centre plays an important role in Rebuilding QBuild with a Queensland-made approach to housing construction and workforce training to address housing needs for Queenslanders.
This involves prefabricated homes using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) to bring more housing supply into the market.Key responsibilities include:
- Oversee the Environmental and Safety and Health Management Systems for the relevant Region to ensure compliance is being achieved and risks are identified and managed.
- Provide workplace health, safety and environmental advice to senior management and regional staff sourced from existing legislation, industry standards and internal policy/procedures
- Support and assist the region in implementing any actions needed to ensure effective and compliant environmental, safety and health processes
- Investigate dangerous incidents, hazards and workplace accidents, conduct health, safety and environmental management system audits, inspect construction sites, maintenance activities and QBuild offices and depots, and identify hazards and risks and formulate and implement preventative actions.
- Provide senior management with formal reports on health and safety KPI's and support the regional management team in the management of the rehabilitation of staff.
- Manage workplace health, safety and environmental programs and provide WHS&E support relevant to program managers in the delivery of individual works programs.
- Lead, develop and educate staff in new technologies both in the field of workplace health, safety and environment (including the management of asbestos and lead) through formal training and regular communication.
- Review Environmental and Safety Management System procedures and make recommendations for improvement.
