We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Work Health and Safety Advisor to join our team at Safety People. As a key member of our organization, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with WHS legislation and fostering a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert technical advice and guidance on WHS matters to stakeholders, ensuring a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Oversee rehabilitation and Workers Compensation Claims, ensuring compliance with legislation and minimizing downtime.
  • Develop and maintain Safe Work Procedures, Safety Management System, SWMS, and registers, ensuring seamless operations.
  • Monitor compliance with WHS legislation and refine performance indicators to drive continuous improvement.
  • Supervise and mentor the WHS team, conduct performance reviews, and identify training needs to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Develop, coordinate, and manage WHS training and inductions, ensuring all employees are equipped to perform their roles safely.
  • Identify safety performance improvements and contribute to workplace ergonomics, promoting a culture of safety and well-being.
  • Develop, coordinate, and manage hazard/risk assessments and inspection systems, ensuring proactive identification and mitigation of risks.
  • Oversee investigation and reporting of workplace incidents, injuries, and illnesses, ensuring timely and effective response.
  • Monitor effectiveness of safety equipment and personal protective equipment, ensuring compliance with regulations and industry standards.
  • Participate in WHS committee and provide incident statistics reports, driving data-driven decision-making.
  • Manage internal and specialist WHS audits, inspections, and audits as per schedule, ensuring ongoing compliance and improvement.
  • Represent the organization in matters related to external WHS authorities, promoting a positive and collaborative relationship.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational WHS or equivalent qualification, demonstrating a strong foundation in WHS principles and practices.
  • ICAM certification or willingness to obtain, showcasing commitment to industry standards and best practices.
  • Valid driver's license, ensuring ability to travel and conduct site visits as required.
  • Extensive experience in a similar role, preferably in a large organization, demonstrating expertise and leadership in WHS.
  • Detailed knowledge of WHS legislation, standards, and codes of practice, ensuring compliance and adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in managing worker rehabilitation and return-to-work programs, promoting a culture of support and inclusivity.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, ensuring effective management of multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication skills for reports and presentations, driving clear and concise communication across the organization.
