Agency Purpose

The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is an independent statutory authority established by the Australian Government to maintain an impartial and independent electoral system for eligible voters through active electoral roll management, efficient delivery of polling services, and targeted education and public awareness programs.

The AEC's values and commitments
The AEC values and commitments are an essential component of our operating environment and frame how AEC staff work. The AEC's focus is on electoral integrity through the values of quality, agility and professionalism.

The Team

The Fraud Investigations Unit / Defending Democracy Unit undertakes fraud control activities including governance, enterprise risks, awareness, reporting and investigations related to corporate fraud and fraud against the Commonwealth Electoral Act (the Act) 1918.

The Fraud Investigations Unit (FIU) manages the day-to-day matters relating to electoral integrity and the integrity of the electoral roll, including participating in section planning and aligning longer term plans with AEC goals and objectives.

The overall aim of the FIU is to support the AEC in preventing, detecting and dealing with fraud.

The Opportunity
We are looking for an energetic and motivated person to join the FIU.

Applicants should be aware that the volume of requests, along with the urgency to resolve matters, will increase significantly around and during both electoral and referendum events.

The Defending Democracy Unit sits within the Electoral Integrity and Communications Branch.

The overall aim of the team is to shape and support the AEC's capability to counter and respond to threats to electoral integrity.
