Position Description:


The Fraud Analytics and Reporting section, within the Audit and Assurance Branch, has been established to ensure a consistent and coordinated approach to data and analytics for the purposes of fraud prevention, detection, and investigation.

The section undertakes complex data analysis using advanced statistical techniques to monitor and report on potential fraudulent activity.


The section has access to a broad range of both internal and external datasets, and leverages this data to assist compliance and investigation teams to achieve their goals.

It is a dynamic working environment with a broad scope. The successful applicant will enjoy working as part of a dynamic team to solve interesting problems.

Duties include:
- build and sustain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and represent the department in external forums
- manage fraud analytics projects, ensuring deliverables are based on the risk profile of the program and resources available
- analyse program data with a view to identifying potential fraudulent activity to both inform disruption strategies and provide an understanding of how the environment might be changing in response to the compliance/investigative activities
- discover trends, patterns and stories told by the data, structured and unstructured, and present them in a format that is suitable for the audience, from Executive briefs to BI reports
- lead and support other team members in their duties, where appropriate.

Eligibility / Additional Requirements:

To be eligible for employment with Department of Social Services (the department), you must be an Australian citizen. An applicant's suitability for employment with the Department will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This will include an identity and criminal history background check.

Eligibility to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance:

The suitable applicant must also obtain and maintain a security clearance conducted by the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA).

Applicants also must be able to establish their background as checkable to be considered eligible for a security clearance.

Any gaps or periods of time spent overseas for 12 or more months (cumulative) that cannot be verified by an Australian referee is deemed uncheckable, rendering the applicant ineligible for a security clearance.

Background history must cover 5 / 10 years (Baseline / Negative Vet 1 or Negative Vet 2) of employment, education, residential, criminal history and anything else specified by the AGSVA.

The suitable applicant must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information to fulfil this process.
