As an Officer, Outreach and Communications, you will:

  • Identify, develop and disseminate information about Deakin Marine programs and research through written, oral, visual, and social media outputs.
  • Develop content and manage the Deakin Marine website, social media platforms, and outreach channels.
  • Design and produce outreach materials including brochures, presentations, videos, conceptual designs, and infographics using contemporary design and media platforms.
  • Implement Deakin Marine's science communication strategy and branding guidelines, along with relevant evaluation of Deakin Marine's communication performance
  • Coordinate press releases with Deakin University's Media Relations and Corporate Communications team.
  • Support development and maintenance of communication channels with government, industry, and the broader community.
  • Contribute to Deakin Marine's research and strategic growth by maintaining regular communication with team members and providing constructive feedback, in alignment with Deakin's code of conduct and core university strategies and policies that promote a safe, sustainable and productive working environment.
  • Comply with occupational health and safety policies and procedures as developed by Deakin University in accordance with current legislation.

To be successful, you'll have:

  • A Degree in Environmental Studies, Marine Science or Communication (Journalism, Digital Media, Marketing or related fields)
  • Related experience translating science into engaging written, oral, visual, or social media outputs using contemporary design and media software and/or knowledge in technical or administrative fields, or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
  • Ability to collaboratively and effectively work with multiple internal and external stakeholders and/or clients from business, government or community sectors and students
