    Job description:
  • As the head of the Government Finance and Accounting Branch, the Director is directly responsible for the efficient and effective leadership of the Branch and the provision of strategic direction and advice on the management of wholeofgovernment financial accounting and reporting activities.

    This includes formulating and providing high level policy advice on accounting standards, financial management reform and financial legislation for the General Government Sector.

    As part of the senior management team, you will also provide high level input to the development and implementation of the corporate objectives of the Department of Treasury and Finance and the strategic objectives of the Government.

The Department of Treasury and Finance provides expert economic, financial and policy advice and services, to support Tasmanian Government priorities and improve the wellbeing of the community.

The Government Finance and Accounting Branch sits within Treasury and its primary responsibilities are to:

- maintain the financial records of the Public Account, including financial and statistical reporting and management of Treasury's departmental and whole-of-government financial activities;
- develop and communicate financial management policy and practices throughout the public sector;
- develop and provide advice on whole-of-government superannuation policy and the provision of budgeting and financial management support; and
- manage State financial assets and borrowing activities.


As the head of the Government Finance and Accounting Branch, the Director is directly responsible for the efficient and effective leadership of the Branch and the provision of strategic direction and advice on the management of whole-of-government financial accounting and reporting activities.

This includes formulating and providing high level policy advice on accounting standards, financial management reform and financial legislation for the General Government Sector.

As part of the senior management team, you will also provide high level input to the development and implementation of the corporate objectives of the Department of Treasury and Finance and the strategic objectives of the Government.


The successful applicant will have a clearly demonstrated capability to lead and manage a large team of professionals across a diverse range of policy related issues in the face of competing demands and tight deadlines.

Highly developed interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills are essential, together with a proven track record of successfully influencing strategic outcomes across multiple and diverse stakeholder groups while retaining high levels of trust and credibility.

The ability to provide high level policy direction and strategic leadership on complex and technical accounting and reporting issues is also required.

Previous government experience will be very highly regarded.
