About the role:

Due to Aurizon's continued growth we have a newly created role for an experienced Principal of Road Transport Governance in our Safety Regulation and Accreditation Business Unit.


This role will see you lead and manage the safety regulation and accreditation capability while maintaining a strategic working relationship with Aurizon's safety regulators and act as the primary connection between the regulators, the enterprise and the leaders.


  • Build capability across business and site leadership to be able to independently prepare for and manage regulator relationships at a local level.
  • Be the first contact for all health and safety regulatory relationships for the enterprise, driving a strategic working relationship with regulators.
  • Develop, improve, and manage proactive health and safety regulator relationships.
  • Manage and respond to regulatory requirements, queries and notifications in collaboration with business leaders.
  • Represent the Company at relevant industry and regulatory working groups/forums.
  • Establish and oversee a regulations community of practice to upskill the business in management of regulator relationships in particular ONRSR, building capability and awareness in the enterprise's obligations, and promoting local leadership.

About you:

  • Significant experience and knowledge in safety legislation, regulation and accreditation specifically rail safety national law (mandatory).
  • Significant experience and knowledge in Heavy Vehicle National Law (preferred)
  • Degree level qualification (e.g. law, commerce) (preferred).
  • Significant experience in strategic working relationships with regulators
  • Expertise in safety legislation, regulation and accreditation
  • Experience in people management, coaching and mentoring
