About the Opportunity
Serco Australia managed the ship design and build process, and will operate and maintain the icebreaker from its home port of Hobart, Tasmania from 2021. The RSV Nuyina will form the centrepiece of the Australian Antarctic Strategy and 20 Year Action Plan and will influence the shape of the nation's scientific research programme for decades to come.

Reporting to the Chief Engineer via the First Engineer, the Electro Technical Officers supports all vessel electrical power and distribution, propulsion, control and instrumentation systems, for both operations and maintenance, while the vessel is at sea and alongside.

As a dedicated and committed individual, you pride yourself on your ability to remain calm in complex and challenging situations. In an ever-changing environment, you maintain effectiveness when experiencing these changes and take responsibility for finding solutions regardless of the cause. Your engaging communication style allows you to effectively collaborate with others and build strong relationships within the team. You effectively manage your time, resources and relationships to ensure work is always completed efficiently. You are a respectful and professional person who demonstrates exceptional moral values in everything you do.

Must be a Certified ETO under Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) III/6

  • Right to work in Australia and on an Australia flagged vessel
    • AMSA-issued Certificate of Competency or Certificate of Recognition as ETO
  • Security Awareness Training
  • Extensive experience working on commercial of naval ships
  • AMSA Certificate of medical fitness
  • Qualified electrical practitioner (Electrician) with an Australian A Grade Electrical Licence (Desired)
  • Dynamic Positioning Maintenance Training Certificate (Desired)
