Some of your primary duties and responsibilities will include the following:

  • Assist with the integration of specified students by direct support, either 1:1 or in small groups
  • Assist with communication in the classroom
  • Assist with skill development to enable students to participate in classroom activities.
  • Provide explicit and targeted support to enable student to meet specific goals, set out in an ILP or specified by an external professional, such as Speech or Occupational Therapist
  • Clarify and assist with tasks to enable access to the curriculum
  • Assist with mobility where necessary.
  • Assist with specified selfcare activities.
  • Assist with physical activity and exercise as required.
  • Assist with the development of social skills as deemed necessary.
  • Assist with preparation and maintenance of specific equipment as required.
  • Support the integration of specified students by assisting the class teacher within the classroom setting.
  • Work as part of the Learning Diversity team for specified students.
  • Liaise and communicate with relevant staff regarding the integration program, students' needs, appropriate strategies, and adjustments.
  • Attend camps and extracurricular activities where appropriate.

About You

  • Appropriate understanding of the educational, social and emotional needs of students with high support needs, particularly students with High Functioning Autism (ASD) and/or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
  • Capacity to form supportive relationships with students with high support needs.
  • Capacity to work effectively with students with high support needs to enable access to the curriculum.
  • Capacity to interact positively with students with high support needs and their peers.
  • Capacity to work sensitively and collaboratively with members of the Learning Diversity team.
  • Awareness of sensitive issues and capacity to maintain confidentiality.
  • Current Working With Children's Check
  • Right to work in Australia
