About the Company


Playgroup NSW supports and delivers a range of strengths-based programs and playgroup related engagements to its 55,000 member families, including but not limited to: Universal community volunteer led programs; Targeted early intervention and preventative programs specifically for children and families experiencing vulnerabilities, and for children with a disability and their carers; Programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and culturally and linguistically diverse families; Perinatal mental and parent/child mental health programs, and Intergenerational programs including older Australians.


For 50 years, playgroups have been a fundamental community building block, creating vital social networks in which children, parents, grandparents, and carers play together, share knowledge and experiences, connect, and grow stronger as a community.

There are Playgroup organisations in all states and territories.

About the Role
To achieve the outcomes of the Play Together - Pathway to Inclusive Playgroups project, specifically:

  • Support children and families with disabilities and/or developmental delay to participate in community playgroups.
  • Provide inclusion training and resources to playgroup staff, volunteers, and community playgroup participants to build the capacity for inclusive practice in community.
  • Collaborate with peak disability organisations to deliver playgroup community events/activities, to build connections between local disability organisations, disability family organisations, families of children with disabilities and/or developmental delay and the playgroup community.

Key Responsibilities

Engagement with families with disability** and/or developmental delay

  • Authentic and ongoing engagement with families in order to support children/families with disabilities and/or developmental delay to participate in community playgroups_,_ this may include attending community playgroups to support families with transition.
  • Engagement with and targeted support for families currently accessing supported playgroup programs to support their transition into community playgroups where appropriate.
  • Supporting families to complete any documentation relating to PlayTogether such as participant surveys or reporting to support evaluation process.
  • Development and Support of inclusive practice.
  • Provide regular and ongoing inclusion training and resources to playgroup staff, volunteers, and community playgroup participants to build the capacity for inclusive practice in community playgroups.
  • Actively support community playgroups to create an inclusive environment and to include families with disability and/or developmental delay. This may include visiting playgroups to provide targeted support.
  • Develop appropriate and up to date training materials and resources relating to inclusion in order to support playgroup staff, volunteers, and community playgroup participants to build the capacity for inclusive practice in community playgroups.

Engagement with local disability organisations

  • Build relationships with local/Peak Disability Organisations, Disability Family Organisations and ECEI providers to identify families for referral into playgroup programs.
  • Develop and deliver inclusive playgroup activities/events in collaboration with Peak/local Disability Organisations in order to build connections between families and relevant organisations
  • Promote the benefits of playgroup outcomes for children, families, and community.

Engagement and communication with Playgroup Australia (PA)
