Metro Trains currently has an opportunity for an experienced Commercial Manager to support the Metro Tunnel Project.


This role exists to lead a team that oversees the commercial management and corporate governance (and risk mitigation) of a complex package of works as part of the Metro Tunnel Project (MTP).

This role will be embedded in an Alliance and is a leadership position that reports directly to the (Metro) Alliance Management Team (AMT) member.


This position manages a team or teams across multiple functions including Procurement, Governance, Cost Control, Finance, Contracts Administration, and Commercial Risk.


It is envisaged that the direct/indirect team will be made up of Metro and non-Metro employees fulfilling a combination of Metro's minimum requirements as an Accredited Rail Transport Operator (ARTO) and Alliance specific requirements.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Financial reporting and impact analysis of key commercial decisions and associated risks including impacts to project cost forecasts (risks & opportunities) and improvement are escalated to the Portfolio leadership team
  • Oversee over core MTM and Alliances processes and procedures and any potential conflicts requiring resolution options in areas of contractual ambiguity or gaps
  • Maximising project revenue and margin opportunities through strategic procurement, subcontractor management, providing input into TOCs and influence at the Alliance level
  • Ensuring all key decisions are supported by measurable commercial risk analysis including any proposed controls and mitigations
  • Participation and successfully in negotiations of any supplier and/or Alliance disputes and any other matters requiring ALT consideration and decision
  • Responding to all internal and external audit requests including the implementation of any recommendations.
About You

  • Tertiary qualification in finance/business or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in Finance / Commercial Management.
  • Knowledge of current cost control and project management techniques.
  • Has a strong understanding of commercial management and corporate governance (and risk mitigation) of a complex and/or multiple project.
  • Communicates with influence with a range of different internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to strategically contribute to financial process improvements
  • Experience across infrastructure projects and/or large scale rollouts.
