Covenant Christian School is seeking Teacher Aides across various years from Prep to Year 8.


Suitably qualified and/or experienced Aides interested in the flexibility afforded by these roles (e.g., mornings-only or full days, 2-4 days a week) are encouraged to apply.


ROLE OVERVIEW


Teacher Aides are responsible for assisting the classroom teacher in implementing the Vision and Mission of the school in the context of the classroom and other areas of the school in which they work.


Aides are to show godly support to students, expressing the outworking of their faith not only in the way they relate to students, but with all the interactions they have with teachers and others in the Covenant Christian School community.


Aides provide valuable assistance to the class teacher as they follow their direction in the safe functioning of the classroom and its environment, and as they assist in student learning.

Aides are directly accountable to the Learning Support Coordinator (Prep-12) who delegates the Aide to the class teacher as required.


Aides are also expected to develop their skills and understanding of the role and are encouraged to be involved in the wider life of the school as we seek to assist parents in the nurture of their children by providing a Christ-centred, biblically grounded, culturally engaging and academically rigorous education to equip the children to live for God's glory.


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the classroom teacher in the safe functioning of the classroom and its environment to maximise teaching and learning outcomes for students and aiding in the delivery of curriculum content from a Christian perspective.
  • Assist in student learning, either individually or in small groups, under the direct supervision of the teacher and as directed by them.
  • Assist teachers with the care of students on school excursions, sports days and other student activities.
  • Coordinators in line with the organisational structure of the school, and promote collaborative relationships between teachers, students and parents.
  • In consultation with your Learning Support Coordinator, be willing to undertake Professional Learning activities from time to time (including during PD Week and Conference Week events) to enhance your learning support practice through a framework of feedback and continued professional growth.
  • Assist the teacher in maintaining a positive classroom culture that fosters clear student behavioural learning and discipline expectations aligned to the school's Student Code of Conduct.

LOCATION


Located on 3.5 hectares in leafy Belrose in NSW, Covenant Christian School is 19 kilometres north-east of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of Northern Beaches Council.


With around 950 enrolled students across Prep to Year-12, we currently employ around 165 full-time and part-time staff, plus further casual staff, with all staff being active participants in their local Christian church.


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the collection, preparation and distribution of classroom materials.
  • Assist with clerical duties associated with normal classroom activities, e.g., student records, equipment records, etc.
  • Provide other general assistance of a supportive nature to teachers as required, under their close supervision or as directed by them.
  • Be ready, prepared and organised in the classroom.
  • Prepare resources as necessary.
  • Be proactive as to the needs of the classroom.
  • Communicate with parents only in the presence of a supervisor.
  • Help to maintain developmental records and portfolios, etc.
  • Ensure you maintain a proper work/life balance to support your own wellbeing.
  • Report any concerns regarding the wellbeing of students to your supervising teacher and/or Coordinator.
  • From time to time, the Teachers' Aide will be required to do other duties as directed by the Learning Support Coordinator or Director of Teaching and Learning (DoTaL).
  • Be involved in the wider life of the school and help to instil cultural expectations across the School.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Committed Christian of a reformed evangelical persuasion, actively involved in the life of their local church and with a strong passion for Christian community.
  • Able and willing to sincerely affirm the School's Statement of Belief modelling a lifestyle that reflects Christian practice and these beliefs in their everyday work and life.
  • Genuine passion for, and capabilities in, Christian Education.
  • Ability to take relevant directions from Teachers and relevant Coordinators in line with the organisational structure of the school.
