About the role

We are currently seeking a values-driven and proactive Ministry Assistant, reporting to the Corps Officer.

This position will be responsible for supporting the Corps Officer in the delivery of the mission of The Salvation Army Wollongong Corps by providing support to community ministries held at the corps.

This role will host community members who come to groups held at The Salvation Army corps facilities, to respond to basic requests for information, referral and assistance.

You will successfully

  • Host community groups being held in the building such as Art for Healing. This includes supporting the leader, joining in the activities, providing hospitality and emotional support to group members
  • Respond to requests from community members seeking assistance by providing referral, food or other appropriate responses
  • Programs and activities meet mission intentions, Corps goals and participant outcomes
  • Maintain records and statistics as appropriate to the role
  • Risks to participant, workers and TSA are identified and brought to the attention of and incidents are managed in accordance with TSA processes
This is a casual position based in Wollongong, NSW. This is an award free role.

You will have

  • An appreciation of and the ability and willingness to promote and support the values and ethos of The Salvation Army
  • Demonstrated capacity to respond with compassion and nonjudgementally to people
  • Able to triage questions from community members and refer as appropriate
  • WHS knowledge of work health safety obligations and to practice these in the workplace in line with TSA policy & procedures and legislation
  • Willingness to undergo a National Police Check
  • Hold a Working with Children Check (NSW/ACT)
  • Current Driver's licence
  • Enrolled and active Solider of the Salvation Army preferred
  • Compulsory Code of Conduct, WHS and Bullying and Harassment training modules are completed and up to date
