The CPCU Manager is responsible for the management and leadership of the Child Protection Conferencing Unit (CPCU) of the DRB. The role manages the operation of a team of Intake and Business Support Officers and also a panel of State-wide convenors that provide service regionally. The role is instrumental in delivering culturally appropriate, trauma-informed, and accessible dispute resolution services for court referred child protection conferences.

This leadership position is responsible for supporting innovation, performance, planning and process improvements, monthly reporting on the performance of the team, effectively engaging with stakeholders, and managing staff. The CPCU Manager reports to the Director, Dispute Resolution Branch.

The position is located in the Brisbane CBD.

Technical skills, abilities and cultural capability

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership and management of the Child Protection Conferencing (CPC) team throughout Queensland in accordance with relevant legislation, directives, policy and procedures;
  • Ensure the delivery of best practice dispute resolution services in the context of CPC and to ensure a trauma informed, culturally appropriate consistent and coordinated approach to the provision of conferences;
  • Consult, liaise and collaborate with key stakeholders, relevant government and non-government agencies involved in CPC to build strong working relationships, anticipate and respond to client and stakeholder needs, including needs of diverse communities, and manage expectations;
  • Provide leadership, guidance and supervision to a state-wide panel of Conference Convenors, ensuring they make use of individual and team capabilities, are trained, equipped and supported in their role to ensure quality outcomes for children;
  • Manage the human, financial and information resources of the CPC team and service to ensure timely and financially responsible delivery of service throughout the state and to enrich our culture of respect and inclusion.
  • Initiate and drive the design, development and implementation of efficient and effective business processes and systems for CPC, ensuring high performance;
  • Manage the collection, collation and analysis of performance measurement data for Departmental reporting purposes, external reporting and internal management purposes;
  • Contribute to a positive team culture, focusing on collaboration, health and wellbeing, communication, providing complex case advice and making the service more accessible to people from diverse backgrounds including First Nations people;
  • Undertake other duties as identified by the Director.
