The Director of Allied Health andLearning and Development is a new role which will provide leadership anddirection for allied health across RMH Mental Health Services. Therole is also responsible for the RMH MHS Learning and Developmentprogram, ensuring a whole of service approach to learning anddevelopment, aligned with our practice reform to establish a holisticapproach to service delivery at RMH MHS, and the outcomes of the RoyalCommission into Victoria's Mental Health Service System.
The position provides direct supportto the senior allied health leadership group, and to senior learning anddevelopment educators.
About the Role: Royal Melbourne Hospital Mental HealthServices provides person-centred, recovery-oriented care, treatment andsupport through our multi-disciplinary workforce of skilled and dynamicclinicians and Lived and Living experience (LLE) consumer and carerexperts. We are dedicated to providing caring and high-qualityspecialist community and hospital-based mental health services foradults and older adults who are experiencing, or are at risk ofdeveloping a serious mental illness.
We have a robust future ahead as thelead mental health service for the Victorian Collaborative Centre forMental Health and Wellbeing Service, and also as the lead adult mentalhealth service for Transforming Trauma Victoria (Statewide TraumaService). These programs will drive mental health reform across thesector, and will offer a wide range of opportunities for involvement ofstaff within the RMH MHS. Our partnerships with multiple community andacademic organisations support our program and enable a sophisticatedlearning structure, with a focus on research translation.
In partnership with the RMH MHSDirectors, and with the support of the allied health and learning anddevelopment leaders, the role is critical to implementation of reformsfollowing from the Royal Commission into the Mental Health ServicesSystem in Victoria. The role is primarily accountable for performanceand quality of allied health professionals and programs within theservice, and the delivery of a high-quality learning and developmentprogram incorporating all discipline perspectives.
The overall functions include:
- Responsibility for managing and leading the allied health discipline leaders, and the Learning and Development educators.
- Ensuring high-quality, evidence-basedcare, treatment and support, underpinned by six key practice domains(see Appendix) is fully implemented in the program and offered asroutine care for consumers and carers/supporters.
- Delivery of the learning program,including group and tiered learning approaches dependent on experience,and the supervision structure for the service.
- Operational delivery of the range ofspecific allied health services, and profession-led delivery of specificinterventions that are expected to be provided by key clinicians.
- Financial management of a range of roles and programs.
- Workforce planning and performance review for the allied health disciplines and the L&D team.
- Oversight of the Early Career Program, including liaison with nursing leadership colleagues to minimise duplication.
- Driving a culture of continuous service improvement.
- Monitoring critical service metricsespecially as related to delivery of core and specific specialist mentalhealth interventions.
- Participation in the after-hours on-call roster as required.
The role contributes as a member ofthe RMH Mental Health Services executive and participates in a range ofservice review, planning, development, and monitoring activities.
About you:
- You have highly developed interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, and evidence of effective stakeholder engagement.
- You have demonstrated expertise inimplementing evidence-based mental health services to people with severeand enduring mental illness.
- You have a strong track record inproviding professional leadership, and the ability to initiate, developand evaluate programs in a public mental health setting
- You have experience within mental health settings working in senior leadership roles.
