Overview

  • The Senior Manager, Acute Services/Director of Nursing (DON) uses their knowledge and experience to provide day to day clinical and operational leadership support and direction for countrywide and Barossa Hills Fleurieu Local Health Network (LHN) acute mental health services. The role balances and integrates strategic and operational perspectives within a specified span of appointment. Work at this level is undertaken by employees with at least 5 years post registration experience.
  • The Senior Manager, Acute Services/DON accepts accountability for the systemwide operational and performance standards of countrywide and Barossa Hills Fleurieu LHN acute mental health services; the development and effectiveness of systems to support, evaluate and consistently improve service performance and the cost effective provision of health services within their span of appointment. This includes responsibility for Nurse Practitioners and the Service Improvement Team.
  • The Senior Manager, Acute Services/DON will:
  • Provide senior level operational support for the optimum functioning of countrywide and Barossa Hills Fleurieu LHN acute mental health services;
  • Initiate and oversee innovations, systemic change processes for operational consistency and performance;
  • Integrate contemporary information and research evidence with personal knowledge and experience to support executive level decision making; and
  • Ensure services are integrated with other parts of the mental health service and the broader country services.
  • The Senior Manager, Acute Services/DON provide strategic and operational leadership, governance, and direction for the nursing, allied health and administration services within Barossa Hills Fleurieu LHN. The focus of the role is on delivering mental health services to country consumers as well as development and implementation of frameworks and systems to support, evaluate and consistently improve clinical practice, healthy work environments and the cost effective provision of country acute mental health services.
  • Staff working at this level are expert managers, practicing at an advanced level, have an extended scope of practice with a high degree of autonomous decision making.
