As an Intelligence Officer (known in the Navy as Navy Intelligence Officer) you will provide intelligence support to commanders and staff at all levels, both at sea and ashore. This role requires a high degree of mental agility as well as the ability to quickly synthesise and critically analyse information. Critical thinking skills are paramount as you will operate in the tactical, operational and strategic levels and integrate within a variety of joint and inter-governmental agencies. Your role will see you managing unpredictable circumstances, leading teams of highly trained individuals and working autonomously.

Your duties include, but aren't limited to:

Preparing and presenting intelligence briefs, conducting debriefs, providing advice to ship's company and commanders at all levels from tactical to strategic Analysing and preparing assessments of maritime activities affecting Australia's interests Carrying out intelligence analysis tasks Interpreting the significance of intelligence data/reports to the conduct of selected Navy operations

You may also be employed in various non-specific intelligence areas, such as training and instructing. At various times throughout your career you will be required to deploy in ships or submarines on exercises or operations.

Throughout your career as an Intelligence Officer, you will progress from participating in the general intelligence staff process, either as a staff officer or operator, to managing and leading the intelligence process. Staff Officer positions exist at several levels within policy development, capability development, project management, career management and workforce management.
